Waitomo and its glowworms

On March 2nd, we went to the Waitomo Glowworm Caves.

These caves are internationally known for the millions of glowworms who live there. Next door, there are Ruakuri Cave and Aranui Cave.

There are several more or less expensive options to visit these caves. It goes from the simple visit to ‘rafting’ or speleology.

We chose the simple option, just for the Waitomo Glowworm Caves (49$ per person).

We were in a group with 30-40 people, which is a big group. The guide was nice.
The visit started with caves comparable to caves you can see in France, so nothing really impressive. At the end of the visit, you go on a boat in the dark to see the glowworms. It was really beautiful, you would think that there are Milky ways just a few meters above your head.

For the beauty of the thing, we do not regret. That being said, the visit conditions are not really great and do not worh the price.

Unfortunately, in this cave, it is forbidden to take pictures (whereas in the two others you can, try working that out…). So here are some pictures found on the Internet.
